November 23, 2007: Advisory re: door-to-door canvassing
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation has recently been contacted by individuals who have been approached by door-to-door canvassers stating that they are raising money for the Foundation.
We advise all members of the public that the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation does not canvass door-to-door, nor does it encourage its donors to raise funds by door-to-door canvassing.
In our experience, some individuals elect to canvass neighbours in their communities as part of their fundraising efforts for events like the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.
If you are approached by a canvasser who states that he or she is raising money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, please follow this advice:
- If you know and trust the canvasser and you want to make a donation, please donate by giving the canvasser a cheque made out to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Do not give cash.
- If a canvasser is unknown to you and you want to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, please visit the Foundation’s website at www.cbcf.org for donation options.
- If you are suspicious of a canvasser, please take note of his or her appearance and contact your local police department.
