Katrina Mazza’s accomplishments and community contributions are truly impressive. A volunteer with the Foundation since 2004, Katrina has played an instrumental role in the development and promotion of the Prairies/NWT Region’s Youth Advisory Council. Believing that it is critical to involve youth in fundraising and in increasing awareness of breast cancer in the community, Katrina continually strives to develop innovative opportunities for youth to become involved in philanthropy.
Through her involvement with the Foundation, Katrina has also become involved in the planning and creation of workshops and programs targeting youth as part of the World Conference on Breast Cancer being held in Winnipeg in June. Katrina‘s significant impact in her community will continue to grow in the future; she is an inspiration to all of us.

| His story: |
Chris Skappak’s volunteer involvement with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation has grown over the years and with it, contributed so much to the Prairies/NWT Region. In 2004, as part of his role with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Edmonton, Chris developed a marketing and distribution database which is still used to this day. In 2005, Chris became a Team Registration Coordinator with the Run and later took on a leadership role on the Prairies/NWT Region’s Youth Advisory Council.
During his tenure Chris has further attracted youth support for the Foundation through his work on the Region’s “University Challenge Headshave” and ” Think Pink Wristband” projects. Involved with the planning committee of the World Conference on Breast Cancer being held in Winnipeg this year, Chris is currently working on the planning and development of the Prairies/NWT presentation to youth delegates at the Conference –ever expanding his influence on youth and the Foundation.

Pink Ribbon Campaign – Atlantic Region |

Every Friday ribbons are dropped off at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic Region office made by three of our most consistent volunteers: Sarah Cox, Holly Dawson, and Heidi Tilley. The Quaker House Girls have been participating in our Pink Ribbon Campaign for seven years as part of the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services, Community Care Division Project 50 program. This program provides individuals with varying levels of ability the opportunity to develop skills while contributing to various causes. Sarah, Holly, and Heidi love to help out by making ribbons for the Foundation. |

Pink Ribbon and Office Volunteer – Atlantic Region |

| Her story: |
Marion Kennedy is an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic Region. Marion works tirelessly as a volunteer for the Pink Ribbon Campaign producing as many as 600 ribbons per month - all on her own. She also assists with general office tasks and third party events.
Marion volunteers her time to learn more about all aspects of breast cancer and is involved with several other breast cancer organizations. As a breast cancer survivor she also acts as an advocate for the cause and can be seen with her pink ribbons and pins on her jacket throughout the year. Marion enjoys volunteering because, as a survivor, she is committed to creating a future without breast cancer.

Volunteering is a family affair for the Woo family. Mom Gale began volunteering as a way to support women in her community and since that time has met many women affected by the disease, including one of Christopher’s teachers. She has been a member of the Vancouver Run Committee for 4 years, currently as Advanced Registration Coordinator. Caitlin has worked on the Run, as well as helping out with projects in the office. Dad Glenn and Christopher have supported the Foundation throughout the lead up to the Run and helping out wherever they are needed on Run day.
Gale says “We’re hoping that our family’s volunteer efforts will make a difference. We enjoy the opportunity to support the Foundation in their efforts in building a future without breast cancer for all women”. We can always count on the Woo’s to help out wherever help is needed.

Organizer of Wine, Women and Woods Golf Tournament – BC/Yukon

Cheryl started her golf tournament event in 1997, since 2003 the event has taken place in Vernon, BC. It was the first women’s only golf tournament for charity in Vernon and to-date has raised over $205,000 for the Foundation. Cheryl is involved with the Foundation because "Finding a cure for breast cancer is near and dear to my heart. This devastating disease touches all of us. It affects our friends, sisters, daughters, wives, mothers and grandmothers. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been touched by this disease in some way. We must put an end to the pain and suffering that breast cancer brings us all".

| Her story: |
Ontario Region Board Member Susan Goodman is a breast cancer survivor, Governance Committee Chair and is also a representative to the National Board. Breast cancer is a cause that is close to Susan’s heart. She values the work of the Foundation and the many volunteers who give the gift of time to support our vision of creating a future without breast cancer.
Susan was an instrumental voice on the Code for Volunteer Involvement Task Group. Along with other volunteers and staff, Susan helped the Foundation to ensure that it was meeting the requirements of the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement which also led to the creation of the Foundation’s recognition plan.
To other volunteers Susan says “Do It". Get involved! The personal rewards are enormous--the ability to devote your time to a worthy cause is an extraordinary feeling. By being a volunteer, I have had the opportunity to meet some dedicated staff and volunteers who are committed to this cause.”

Every fall Betty Power celebrates her birthday in an unusual way. Rather than relaxing at home with family and friends, the 17-year breast cancer survivor spends her day as a volunteer team leader, registering participants for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. "There’s nothing I’d rather do" says Betty. "Every birthday is a gift for me and I’m delighted to give back". Betty’s volunteerism extends beyond the Toronto Run to her cottage in Muskoka, where she makes pink ribbons with friends and organizes a golf tournament in support of the Foundation. "The Foundation and its volunteers are making such a difference", she says. "I’m proud to be part of it." |

| Her story: |
Gabriela has been assisting with administrative support in the Central Office’s Finance department since 2007. In her home country of Mexico, Gabriela was a Public Accountant and hopes to continue on her accounting career path in Canada. She joined the Central Office’s volunteer program to gain valuable Canadian experience in the finance & accounting field and also to practice her English language skills. Gabriela is a great asset to the Finance department and her assistance with accounts payable and special projects leads to increased efficiency within the department. Gabriela says that “My volunteer experience with the Foundation is extremely rewarding because of the important impact that the Foundations’ research has on finding a cure for breast cancer.“ Her expertise and skills are highly coveted and her continued volunteer commitment to the Finance department on a weekly basis is much appreciated.

Every Monday morning Shauna Marie O’Connor comes to the Foundation to participate in the Pink Ribbon Campaign. Shauna- Marie brings enthusiasm, energy, and dedication to the task of making pink ribbons. Shauna Marie is a program participant in SOAR, which is a program providing clients between the ages of 18 to 28, with various levels of ability, the opportunity to develop life skills through a variety of programs, including volunteer placements. Shauna-Marie loves to volunteer because “it is fun to make the pink ribbons and it is good to help out.”
